Passover cake.
I made dinner for 20 guests last night for a Passover Seder. It was definitely the biggest group I’ve hosted a sit-down meal for. Everything turned out really well. Unfortunately, since I was cooking/serving/sedering I didn’t have time to take pictures. So I baked a delicious cake. This cake is what passover is all about: eggs, sugar, and family recipes.
Sunday night dinner.
After a 45 mile bike ride, all you want to do is eat. We took care of business on this excellent combo of chicken with a red wine and mushroom sauce. A little maple syrup held it all together.
Tahoe ski trip pasta.
So much good food on this trip. Not enough pictures.
Fridge stew.
Stew beef plus what we had in the fridge.
Ashley: what’s the base?
Dan: love.
Silence…
On a related note: the boys always start our stews at 7:00pm. I don’t recommend this time frame. We didn’t get to eat this one until about 10:30, which didn’t provide a lot of time to digest, dessert, and digress before bed. Start your stew at 4 or 5 for optimum results.
Chicken chao mian.
Cooling as we speak. It’s pretty darn tasty, so I’m going to go eat it now!
salmon with white wine sauce (valentine’s dinner).
I wanted to take pictures of the process for this one because the sauce was something new for me. It’s mainly white wine and milk, which came out tasting light and not too creamy. It turns out that having several pots and pans going at once makes it pretty tricky to cook and take photos, so you only get to see the end result.
The biggest lesson learned is that you should never go to Whole Foods on Valentine’s Day. I shopped there because it’s within walking distance and I was trying to coordinate a tight schedule. Turns out good planning would have been actually planning in advance.
The meal came out great, and Ashley baked a delicious cinnamon something for desert, which she served with dark chocolate cayenne ice cream from JP Licks. Overall, a pretty successful Monday night dinner.
I commissioned Jason to make this necklace for Ashley for Valentine’s Day. It came out looking amazing. The symbol is the shorthand for diethyl ether, which is Ashley’s favorite compound because it looks like a swimmer.

Nachos.
As much as we try to class it up, sometimes we can’t resist getting down with tortilla chips and salsa. These nachos featured chicken, red and green salsa, many cheeses, and avocado. Enough food for at least 5 (there were only 2 of us though).
Skillet lasagna.
Shorter prep time than standard lasagna, and delicious on the first go-round. Held up pretty well for leftovers also.
Chicken tikka masala with rice, naan, and Thai chile chutney (thanks Jason and Angela)!
